Born and educated in NZ, Scott has sailed extensively, working charter seasons for YCA and Sunsail before spending 5 years in the super yacht industry. Selling his marine service business in Auckland he moved to England in 2000 After managing Southsea Marina’s engineering operations for 2 years he started 1 Degree West Marine in Nov. 2002. The ‘no compromise to quality’ and variation of skills honed from working on super yachts, has given him a very broad range of knowledge essential to 1 D.W’s. success. His grass roots training and genuine enjoyment of sailing is the key to a quality service to suit owners expectations.
Manager - Southsea
A Wiltshire lad who graduated from Portsmouth Uni with a Marine Technology degree accredited by RINA, I Mech. Eng and I Mar Est. Nathan has achieved a lot in a short time. A couple of seasons in Greece with Sunsail and a winter as reft project manager, plus the ft out of a 40 metre Sunseeker. This prepared him perfectly to join 1 D.W. in 2011. After gaining some more experience in Chichester, he returned in Jan. 2015 and in 2016 he took over the role of manager at Southsea. A keen sailor and cyclist he was racing his own yacht in the ECA series, but rumour has it that he has been head hunted into the marina manager’s crew!!
Kosta has gained a great deal of valuable experience having worked in the charter yacht industry in Greece for 8 years. He has since worked on the clipper race yachts and several years as a Marine Engineer in Gosport. He joined 1 D.W. 7 years ago and he has become an essential part of our team. There is not much he doesn’t know about your boats mechanical systems. A dedicated family man, he has yet to come out racing but we suspect he is happier playing with engines than pulling ropes or setting sails.
Jack joined us In 2017 after a summer season for Sunsail in Port Solent. He studied Marine engineering at City College Marine Skills Centre and gained a pass with distinction in his level 3. Jack is also a keen sailor with Competent Crew and Dinghy Instructor certifcates and has spent his spring and summer breaks teaching sailing and working at Emsworth Harbour Chandlery. Jack is gaining experience fast and fits well into the Southsea team.
“We have been making use of One Degree West’s services for the last two years and have found them to consistently offer excellent service and advice, and very good value for money. One Degree West are fully supportive, providing advice and encouragement, sharing their knowledge, then coming in to do jobs that are either too challenging for us, or we don’t have time to do. We recommend them to everyone we meet.” Chris & Chris Meatyard
